Meet the 2015 ALTA Emerging Translator Mentees!

ALTA is pleased to announce the mentees for the inaugural year of the ALTA Emerging Mentorship program. Congratulations to our three exceptional emerging translators, chosen from more than 60 applications:

Scott Shanahan (Catalan)
Scott Shanahan is a New York-based translator of Catalan and Spanish, currently at work on a collection of surreal prose poetry by acclaimed Catalan writer Mercè Rodoreda. His recent readerly interests include stories about the intersection of community and social class, not least because he’s now writing one himself. Read more about Scott here.

Joyce Zonana (French)
Joyce Zonana is the author of a memoir, Dream Homes: From Cairo to Katrina, an Exile’s Journey (Feminist Press 2008), along with numerous scholarly essays and book reviews.  Her translation of Henri Bosco’s Malicroix is her first venture as a literary translator.  She teaches English at Borough of Manhattan Community College. Anna Zaranko (Polish)
Born and raised in the UK, Anna Zaranko is a freelance editor and translator from Polish and Russian. She is currently working on a new translation of the 19th-century Russian classic, The Way of a Pilgrim, for Penguin Books. Read more about Anna here.

Mentees will present their work on Saturday, October 31, 2015, at from 1-2 pm at Café Passé (415 N. 4th Ave., Tucson, AZ) as part of ALTA38: Translation & Traffic. More information on the conference is available at www.literarytranslators.org/alta38.

Mentors for the 2015-2016 ALTA Mentorship are Ronald Puppo (Catalan), Alyson Waters (French), and Bill Johnston (Polish). These mentorships are being offered by ALTA in partnership with the Institut Ramon Llull, The French Embassy Books Office, and Polish Cultural Institute New York.
