IPTA 2017 Shortlist: We Want Everything

The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) is delighted to announce the shortlist for the 2017 Italian Prose in Translation Award. Starting in 2015, the Italian Prose in Translation Award (IPTA) recognizes the importance of contemporary Italian prose (fiction and literary non-fiction) and promotes the translation of Italian works into English. This prize is awarded annually to a translator of a recent work of Italian prose (fiction or literary non-fiction).

2017 Lucien Stryk Shortlist Announced!

August 14, 2017— The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) is delighted to announce the 3-title shortlist for the 2017 Lucien Stryk Asian Translation Prize. Lucien Stryk was an internationally acclaimed translator of Japanese and Chinese Zen poetry, renowned Zen poet himself, and former professor of English at Northern Illinois University.

National Translation Awards in Poetry and Prose Shortlists Announced!

August 7, 2017—The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) is pleased to announce the shortlists for the 2017 National Translation Awards (NTA) in Poetry and Prose! This is the nineteenth year for the NTA, which is administered by the ALTA, and only the third year to award separate prizes in poetry and prose. The NTA is the only national award for translated fiction, poetry, and literary nonfiction that includes a rigorous examination of both the source text and its relation to the finished English work.

The American Literary Translators Association (ALTA) is pleased to announce the longlists for the 2017 National Translation Awards (NTA) in Poetry and Prose! This is the nineteenth year for the NTA, which is administered by ALTA, and the third year to award separate prizes in poetry and prose. Call for NTA Expert Readers in Poetry and Prose!

ALTA is seeking expert readers for the 2017 National Translation Awards! We are looking for readers in the following languages:

Expert readers will be provided with a PDF of the book to be evaluated. Reader reports must be delivered by July 17.

Meet the 2017 Judges for the Cliff Becker Book Prize in Translation!

The Cliff Becker Book Prize in Translation is given to an unpublished book-length manuscript of poetry in translation. It includes a $1,000 prize and publication by White Pine Press.

Submissions to the Cliff Becker Book Prize are open until April 7, 2017.

The Italian Prose in Translation Award (IPTA), inaugurated in 2015, recognizes the importance of contemporary Italian prose (fiction and literary non-fiction) and promotes the translation of Italian works into English. This $5000 prize is awarded annually to a translator of a recent work of Italian prose (fiction or literary non-fiction).

The deadline to submit pieces to the IPTA is April 7, 2017.

Meet the 2017 Judges of the National Translation Award in Prose!

The National Translation Award is awarded annually in poetry and in prose to literary translators who have made an outstanding contribution to literature in English by masterfully recreating the artistic force of a book of consummate quality. The NTA is the oldest prize for a work of literary translation in English, and the only one to include an evaluation of the source language text.
