ALTA47 Health and Safety Policy

At ALTA, community is our priority, and our goal is to create a safe and positive ALTA conference in Tucson this fall by reducing health risks and acting out of care for ourselves and others. Making the conference more accessible to disabled and immunocompromised participants helps keep all of us safer and healthier. Masks are required when attendees are in the audience during ALTA events in the hotel. Exceptions may be made if a participant cannot wear a mask due to sensory or medical issues. Panelists and readers may choose to unmask when speaking only. Read more in our Health and Safety Policy.

More Information

Registration Rates: You might have noticed that ALTA’s conference registration prices are increasing by $25 this year. This is the first price increase since 2017, following the approval of ALTA’s Executive and Finance Committees. We understand that finances are tight for many in our community, and we wanted you to understand the reasons behind this change. For years, ALTA has significantly subsidized conference registration, and even with this increase we continue to do so: the actual cost per-person of putting on the ALTA conference is around $350-$400. Additionally, the cost of hosting conferences at hotels has gotten significantly more expensive post-pandemic. We remain committed to our community, and to keeping costs as low as possible while keeping our finances as an organization strong. We hope to see you at ALTA47!

Complimentary Registration: ALTA is offering a lottery signup for a limited number of complimentary ALTA47 registrations designed for those with financial hardship or who come from communities traditionally underrepresented at ALTA. Please note: If you have already registered for ALTA47, we are unable to refund you for your purchase in the event that you are selected in the lottery. The lottery opens for applications through this form on June 11. The lottery deadline is August 31, 2024.

ALTA is also offering a Work Exchange Program in 2024 at our in-person conference. In exchange for free ALTA46 registration, work exchange volunteers will assist ALTA staff for a few hours with various tasks related to putting on our conference. The work exchange program opens for applications through this form on July 16. The application deadline is September 5, 2024.

Refunds: Please note that registration is non-refundable.

Terms and Conditions and Code of Conduct: All participants in ALTA's 2024 programming agree to abide by and uphold ALTA's Terms and Conditions and Code of Conduct, in addition to our Health and Safety Policy

Please direct any questions you might have to info@literarytranslators.org. We hope you enjoy this year's conference!
