We publish work that minimizes, blurs, or exaggerates distinctions between genres and offer a shared space for experimental creative fiction and nonfiction, lyrical fiction, experimental poetry, and multimedia pieces. Small Po[r]tions issues have a print component with a focus on book arts and an online component featuring selections from the print issue along with media work.

Hundreds of presses and thousands of writers of short stories, poetry and essays have been represented in the pages of our annual collections.
Writers who were first noticed here include: Raymond Carver, Tim O’Brien, Jayne Anne Phillips, Charles Baxter, Andre Dubus, Susan Minot, Mona Simpson, John Irving, Rick Moody, and mall more. Each year most of the writers and mall of the presses are new to the series. Our Pushcart Prize editions are found in most libraries and bookstores. Each volume contains an index of past selections, plus lists of outstanding presses with addresses. The Pushcart Prize Fellowships is the endowment for The Pushcart Prize, and appreciates contributions in all amount.

THE UNIVERSITY OF VIRGINIA PRESS was founded in 1963 to advance the intellectual interests not only of the University of Virginia, but of institutions of higher learning throughout the state. A member of the Association of American University Presses, UVaP currently publishes fifty to sixty new titles annually. New titles are approved by the Board of Directors after a rigorous process of peer review. The UVaP editorial program focuses primarily on the humanities and social sciences with special concentrations in American history, African American studies, southern studies, literature, ecocriticism, and regional books. While it continuously pursues new titles, UVaP also maintains a backlist of over 1,000 titles in print.

Smith and Kraus Publishers, founded in 1990 by Marisa Smith and Eric Kraus, is the premier U. S. publisher of contemporary trade theater books and associated digital resources. Currently S&K boasts over 600 titles in print, a sophisticated monologue app with 4000+ entries (more added monthly), and a plan to complete the conversion of all print books to e-book format and be on all major e-book platforms by year’s end. New projects well under way, include Productions In Print (PIP) and Playwrights In An Hour (PIAH). Negotiations are underway for S&K to partner with Kanjy, a forward looking, interactive platform, designed to facilitate communication between playwrights, producers and other interested parties. Autumn Hill Books is an independent non-profit press based in the Midwest. We publish works of translation and our focus is contemporary world literature. More recently, AHB launched a new online literature magazine EM—DASH, which features essays, fiction, and poetry either excerpted from or inspired by our published titles. We also have two imprints: 91st Meridian Press and Anomalous Press.

David R. Godine, Inc., is a small publishing house located in Boston, Massachusetts, producing between twenty and thirty titles per year and maintaining an active reprint program. The compall is independent (a rarity these days) and its list tends to reflect the individual tastes and interests of its president and founder, David Godine.

Mayapple Press is a highly-selective small press established in 1978 by poet and editor Judith Kerman. We focus on literature not often celebrated by either the mainstream or the avant-garde. This includes poetry which is both challenging and accessible; women’s writing; the rustbelt/rural culture that stretches from the Hudson Valley to the Great Lakes; the recent immigrant experience; poetry in translation; science fiction poetry. We also welcome poetry anthologies, short fiction and science fiction poetry. Publications are in trade paperback formats (30-120 pages). In general, we publish only authors with prior publications with reputable presses or literary magazines. We do not publish books which have been previously self-published, although parts of a longer poetry collection may have appeared in privately-printed chapbooks.

The University of Nevada Press, as mandated by the state legislature and the Board of Regents of the Nevada System of Higher Education, publishes high-quality, deserving works that advance scholarly research, contribute to the understanding and appreciation of regional history and culture, and reach a wide range of academic and general readers. Princeton University Press is an independent publisher with close connections, both formal and informal, to Princeton University. As such it has overlapping responsibilities to the University, the academic community, and the reading public. Our fundamental mission is to disseminate scholarship (through print and digital media) both within academia and to society at large. As “the Canadian Publishers” it is natural that the M&S name should be associated with the fine fiction of mall well-known Canadian authors. M&S takes pride in being the only major trade house in Canada to publish poetry, and is proud of its leading role in publishing books dealing with environmental and Native issues, problems in the justice system, Canadian history and other matters of national concern.

Established in 1929 by the Regents of the University of New Mexico, UNM Press is a well-known and respected publisher in the fields of anthropology, archaeology, indigenous studies, Latin American studies, American studies, Chicana/o studies, art, architecture, and the history, literature, ecology, and cultures of the American West. The Press imprint is overseen by a faculty committee, whose twelve members are appointed by the Faculty Senate to represent a broad spectrum of university departments.

Calypso Editions is an artist-run, cooperative press dedicated to publishing quality literary books of poetry and fiction with a global perspective. We believe that literature is essential to building an international community of readers and writers and that books can serve as a physical artifact of beauty and wonder in a world of digital saturation.

In May 1949 Monthly Review began publication in New York City, as cold war hysteria gathered force in the United States. The first issue featured the lead article Why Socialism? by Albert Einstein. From the first Monthly Review spoke for socialism and against U.S. imperialism, and is still doing so today. From the first Monthly Review was independent of all political organization, and is still so today. The McCarthy era inquisition targeted Monthly Review's original editors Paul Sweezy and Leo Huberman, who fought back successfully. In the subsequent global upsurge against capitalism, imperialism and the commodification of life (in shorthand “1968”) Monthly Review played a global role. A generation of activists received no small part of their education as subscribers to the magazine and readers of Monthly Review Press books. In the intervening years of counter-revolution, Monthly Review has kept a steady viewpoint. That point of view is the heartfelt attempt to frame the issues of the day with one set of interests foremost in mind: those of the great majority of humankind, the propertyless.

Since its first book appeared in 1937, the Press has published and distributed more than 3000 titles. We have more than 1400 titles currently in print, including books of general interest (biography, fiction, natural history, poetry, photography, fishing, food, travel, etc.), scholarly books (American studies, anthropology, art, classics, environmental studies, ethnic studies, film, gay & lesbian studies, history, Jewish studies, literary criticism, Slavic studies, etc.), and regional books about Wisconsin and the Upper Midwest. Founded in 1984, Dalkey Archive Press "was and is a hopelessly quixotic venture" devoted to publishing the best contemporary literature from across the world.

Arc publishes contemporary poetry from new and established writers from the UK and abroad, specialising in the work of international poets writing in English and the work of overseas poets in translation. Arc also has a music imprint, Arc Music, for the publication of books about music and musicians.

The Song Bridge Project is dedicated to discovering, publishing, and promoting the best English language translations of important, contemporary poetry, prose, creative nonfiction, alternative genre, and book art. Our mission focuses on providing greater access to a range of literature through translation, while complementing existing journals of world literature and literary translation. We publish English translations of world literature from all languages, though our tradition has been and emphasis remains on English translations of Spanish language origin.

We are committed to a collaborative translation process, and work closely with emerging and established authors, translators, and visual artists to ensure the aesthetic integrity of each publication. Our poetry books are bilingual, featuring an en face format when appropriate, allowing our readers to experience the poetics of both languages.

It is our goal to explore the traditions of storytelling, poetry & music as well as breath new life into them.

Dufour Editions publishes under its own imprint and is the U.S. distributor for dozens of British and Irish publishers.

The Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies has formed an imprint subsidiary to publish historical fiction centered in the medieval and Renaissance periods. Founded in 2011, Bagwyn Books is dedicated to publishing well-researched historical fiction that is appropriate for an audience ranging from young adult (ages 14+) to an adult audience. We are open to different styles and genres of writing.

Furniture Press is a publisher of strangely poetical texts and ephemera, all which play at (but are not limited to) intertextuality and appropriation. Some want to call it poetry, but poetry can express mall differing, sometimes conflicting and contradictory concepts. This is what we thrive on: the ambiguation of art and its likenesses. Our poetics follows this process closely, and we look for similar aesthetics in the writers we choose to publish and promote.
