The American Literary Translators Association is excited to announce that registration for ALTA43: In Between is open!

This year’s virtual ALTA conference will kick off on International Translation Day, September 30, 2020, for two and a half weeks of daily events, culminating in a weekend of all-day programming on October 17-18, 2020. The schedule will include a blend of synchronous and asynchronous content, at different times of day to accommodate different time zones. Registration includes admission to the full conference, including live events during the conference weekend and all programming leading up to it. All presenters, including readers accepted to the Annual Alexis Levitin Bilingual Reading Series, must register for the conference.

With the aim of making participation more feasible for more people, we’ve made some changes to registration this year. We’ve reduced rates, set our base registration at an at-cost price of $100, and introduced tiered pay-what-you-can options. If you or your institution are in a position to pay the usual in-person conference registration rate, we hope you’ll consider registering at $200. Your generosity makes it possible for us to keep registration rates low for everyone. For those who are not in a position to pay the at-cost price, there is the option of a $50 rate.

Registration for tickets at the $125 & $200 levels (which include one translation workshop and two exclusive pitch sessions with translation publishers) closes on August 31.

One thing hasn’t changed: ALTA members still receive discounted registration. Become an ALTA member today for 10% off registration. To access the member discount, you must be logged into your member account when registering.

Financial Accessibility: To make our programming as accessible as possible during these times, we have also set aside a limited number of $100 discounts, designated for those with financial hardship or who come from communities traditionally underrepresented at ALTA. These registrations will be available via a lottery system. Discounts can be applied towards the $100 tier (for free access to all conference programming) or $125 tier (for access to all conference programming, as well as participation in one workshop and two pitch sessions, for a $25 fee). Please fill out this form by midnight PST on August 24 to be entered in the lottery. ALTA will be in touch by August 26 to let individuals know whether or not they have been selected.

And to the extent that you are able, please give to ensure that ALTA can continue its work.

All conference registrations must be purchased online with a credit or debit card. We do not accept checks or cash. Please also note that registration is non-refundable.
