Announcing the 2024 Shortlists of the Italian Prose in Translation Award, Lucien Stryk Asian Translation Prize, Spain-USA Foundation Translation Award, and ALTA First Translation Prize

We're delighted to announce the 2024 shortlists for the Italian Prose in Translation Award (IPTA), Lucien Stryk Asian Translation Prize, the Spain-USA Foundation Translation Award (SUFTA), and ALTA First Translation Prize!

The winners of these awards will be announced at ALTA’s annual awards ceremony, which will take place on October 26, 2024 in Milwaukee, WI, as part of ALTA’s annual conference, ALTA47: Voices in Translation.

Announcing the 2024 ALTA Travel Fellows

Each year, between four and six $1,000 Travel Fellowships are awarded to emerging translators.

We're delighted to introduce you to the 2024 ALTA Travel Fellows:

Ibrahim Fawzy, 2024 Peter K. Jansen Memorial Travel Fellow, translating Arabic
Dorottya Mária Cseresnyés, translating Hungarian
Tetiana Savchynska, translating Ukrainian
Brandon Toh Kay Boon, translating Chinese

The winners of the 2024 Travel Fellowships will be featured in a reading at the ALTA47 conference on October 26.

Announcing the Longlists for 2024 National Translation Awards in Poetry and Prose

The longlists for the 2024 National Translation Awards in Poetry and Prose are here!

2024 marks the 26th year for the NTA, and the 10th year to award separate prizes in poetry and prose. The shortlists for the NTA will be announced on October 10th, and the winners will be announced on October 26th at an Awards Ceremony as part of ALTA’s annual conference, ALTA47: Voices in Translation, in Milwaukee, WI. The winning translators will receive a $4,000 cash prize each.

2025 ALTA Emerging Translator Mentorship Program Open for Applications

The Emerging Translator Mentorship Program is designed to facilitate a close working relationship between an experienced and an emerging translator on a project selected by the emerging translator, at no cost to the emerging translator.

There are 18 mentorships available in 2025. Learn more and apply by November 30, 2024!
